economic goals
The situation in sub-Saharan Africa:
50% of all man-hours lost in industry and agriculture are from MALARIA infection, reducing GDP by 1.3% or US $12 billion annually.
The average Ugandan earns LESS THAN US$3 per day.
FOOD COSTS are approximately US$1 per day for those who are not growing their own food.
When available, ALLOPATHIC DRUG treatments cost between US$6 -14 per day, including the cost of nutrient rich foods required to take these medicines.
TRADITIONAL MEDICINE treatments are either free, paid for in kind or cost between 10 and 25 cents per day, and often double as food.
our response:
African communities have the potential to build self-sustaining economies through developing their indigenous system of traditional medicine. Using Integrative Medicine Foundation’s phased approach, we will invest significant capital into local economies, resulting in sustainable infrastructure and a health care system with jobs created around the cultivation, production and distribution of traditional remedies.
